Head of Digital

I have over 10 years of experience in digital marketing, starting as a web design apprentice and working up to Head of Digital. I manage full-funnel operations, such as: Paid Ads, SEO, Website Management, Social Media Marketing, Data Analysis and overall creative marketing direction. I’m looking to bring these skills in-house to support a business owner with their growth aspirations.

The National Federation of Builders

The National Federation of Builders (NFB) is one of the UK’s most recognised federations, providing essential certification, advice, and representation for construction businesses and independent builders across the country.

The Challenge

While the NFB is a staple name within the construction sector, their existing website required a modern overhaul to better engage the next generation of tradespeople. The site structure had become difficult to navigate, making it frustrating for existing members to quickly locate resources and giving new visitors little reason to stay and explore.

The NFB approached us to streamline the user experience, simplify access to member benefits, and modernise their online presence to drive new membership sign-ups.

Research & Discovery

The NFB team arrived well-prepared with extensive data and documentation highlighting their core user demographics and primary site friction points. I spent time thoroughly analysing this data to understand the everyday needs of their audience—from independent tradespeople on-site to larger construction firm directors.

The key takeaway was clear: users wanted immediate, direct access to essential resources with as few clicks as possible, without wading through complex navigation structures.

Execution Process

I revamped the homepage layout to clearly communicate the NFB’s core value proposition, removing unnecessary industry jargon and incorporating inclusive, high-quality imagery to make the federation feel welcoming to newer members. High-visibility calls-to-action (CTAs) were integrated throughout the user journey to encourage membership applications.

Recognising that many tradespeople access the platform whilst on site, I heavily focused on the mobile experience. I restructured the mobile navigation so users could effortlessly locate and download critical resources on the go, eliminating the need to dig through nested sub-menus.

The Results

The overhauled platform delivered a refreshed aesthetic that balances visual appeal with practical utility. Alongside a clean front-end experience, the back-end functionality was upgraded to make resource and membership management far more efficient for the NFB team.

Post-launch analytics demonstrated a marked increase in overall site traffic, improved visitor engagement times, and higher member satisfaction rates across both mobile and desktop users.
